Just under five months of picking up this hands-on hobby that I’m really enjoying and happily exploring. As part of my crochet journey, I’ll be sharing my own crochet progress and the things I’m learning and attempting to crochet.
But first, how’d I get to “Hooked on Stories”?
Well, I work at an online photography school and the thing I love most about my day job is that we get to help people express themselves creatively. But, I wasn’t really doing anything very creative as a hobby. My co-worker and friend, Brett, recommended crochet – something he’d enjoyed as a kid having been taught by his mum – and I was ready to give it a go!
I bought a beanie making kit, and it honestly took several start-stop attempts including one moment in which I kinda (quietly) “rage-quit” because I found the learning curve quite steep. I was feeling kinda demotivated but I perservered. After pouring over hours of YouTube videos and wondering if I was just creating a convoluted group of knots…something clicked. My work actually started to resemble something. Next thing I knew, I had finished making the beanie. It wasn’t perfect. It was actually too big – like a massive teapot cosy. But it was a functional piece of clothing that I had created from a ball of yarn. Next thing you know – I was hooked (Yeah, I know…Really cheesy pun).
Having never been able to put my undergrad journalism degree to full use, and enjoying chatting to other crocheters that I’ve met through friends or workshops, I liked the idea of interviewing and having convos with crocheters and sharing their stories.
Stories that I think we’d want to hear about – from a crocheter’s beginnings, to what inspires them to create and crochet.
And so, Hooked on Stories was born!
